Since the school bus is considered school property, it is eligible for E-Rate funding. This funding can cover the monthly data plan, installation, equipment, and activation to make the service functional.

A school bus Wi-Fi solution typically works by using a router that connects to a network to provide internet access. The router creates a Wi-Fi network within the bus that students can connect to.
Is the Wi-Fi connection secure?
Yes, the Wi-Fi connection provided by the C1 Bus Wi-Fi solution is secure. It uses WPA2 or WPA3 encryption to protect your data. However, as with any public Wi-Fi, it’s recommended to use a VPN for additional security.
What services are E-Rate eligible?
Installation fees and equipment needed to make this wireless service for school buses functional are eligible under Category One. Security services, separate maintenance and operations services, cameras, telematics and route/rider management related to mobile connectivity for the school buses are not eligible. Cost allocation will occur for ineligible services.
Can C1 create secure web filtering other than through a router?
Yes, C1 can configure the router to tunnel traffic back to the school firewall through a VPN, which includes professional services that are E-Rate reimbursable.
How is CIPA compliance demonstrated?
Schools and libraries must maintain documentation demonstrating CIPA compliance for all funding years. In the 1st and 2nd year of participation in the E-Rate program, schools may show work towards CIPA compliance, but by the 3rd year, documentation must show full compliance.
